  • The Opportunity*

The Senior UX Designer will work out of the CA office located in Prague, Czech Republic. CA Technologies is a multi-billion dollar company who builds enterprise software products. This position will focus on products in the area of DevOps for the Mainframe Business Unit. Approximately 90% of the work is on products with graphical interface and 10% on legacy green screen style interfaces.

A seasoned professional who has a solid mix of design, project lead experience, and UX research skills. We would expect you to juggle a UX lead role on multiple products. You should be confident in your ideas, a strong advocate for design and UX process, and be a firm advocate for our users. This is a senior level position that calls for a proven track record of success and a commitment to high standards in product design. This position is an ideal environment to challenge you to “think big” and gives you the support you need to drive your career. A successful candidate need not have any experience with Mainframe computing.

  • What You’ll Do*

Work with the fellow UX designers, product managers, engineering teams, and customers on the user interface design and UX research of software products related to application development on the Mainframe environment.

  • Develop strong relationships with product teams and act as a trusted & respected design advisor.

  • Work with and define personas to root work on the correct role(s).

  • Define use cases for the problems that need to be solved.

  • Define product capabilities and capture that in formats such as use cases, user journeys, storyboards, As-is / To-be, hill statements, flow diagrams etc.

  • Run design workshops with teams and / or customers, such as Design Thinking, Design Sprints, or Design Studios.

  • Engage customers to walk through their process, introduce product capabilities, validate designs, and explore product concepts.

  • Develop and grow customer relationships to create ongoing engagements.

  • Plan and execute work inside the Agile process by writing and collaborating on stories with product managers and product owners so that UX work is part of the product team’s planning and execution.

  • Define and refine UX process to fit with product management and engineering team processes. This has both strategic and tactical elements and process must fit with the product team to be effective.

  • Tactical*

  • Design thoughtful user experiences and well crafted interaction designs for product based on real user needs, motivations, and pain-points.

  • Design work with deliverables including stories, hand drawn sketches, flow diagrams, journey maps, wireframes, design specifications.

  • Research work with deliverables including competitive analysis, usability testing reports, card sorting results, product validation assessments.

  • Work in an agile process on design stories and engineering stories with design dependencies. Run ahead of teams to lay down the tracks for engineering teams.

  • Assist and support scrum teams but also guide product management on strategic planning work. Candidate needs to balance these roles.

  • Take design risks that promote innovative features and balance that with a pragmatic approach to helping the teams achieve business goals.

  • Contribute positively to design discussions with other UX team members by providing constructive design commentary, and sharing evaluative critique.

  • Author UI standards, styles and patterns and assist with creation of visual artifacts and graphics for use in the UI as needed.

  • Collaborate, test, refine and validate your designs with the team and the product’s end users.

  • Plan, lead and conduct usability testing studies .

  • Identify possible usability issues with the existing product and make constructive suggestions for improvement.

  • Effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually.

  • Track current trends, patterns, and technologies, and share your passion for them with the CA design community.

  • Coach & mentor junior User Experience Designers .

  • The Ideal Candidate Will Have*

  • 7+ years deep experience in the area of UX design with significant experience as a UX lead and experience doing research.

  • Understanding user-centered design and design thinking

  • Demonstrated experience in interaction design including defining personas, use cases, workflows, use cases, wireframes, and design specifications.

  • Customer-focused with experience using UX research methods to uncover insights including direct customer interaction, usability testing, and participating in workshops.

  • Insatiable curiosity and an obsession with finding better ways of doing things

  • Excellent communication skills including experience speaking to technical (engineering, architects) and business (product managers) audiences.

  • Strong co-design and facilitation skills

  • A passion for creating products that resonate emotionally with people

  • Ability to juggle – metaphorically and perhaps physically.
