The Product Owner serves as the customer proxy to the Agile team. Working as part of the Product Management team, they will own, define and prioritize the team backlog, establish story acceptance criteria, drive content via prioritized user stories, obtain customer validation and accept stories, ensuring that the solution effectively addresses overall program priorities while maintaining technical integrity.

This role is a senior Product Owner who can work independently interfacing with other Product Owners, Product Managers, Cross-Functional Team members, and internal and external customers at every level.

The perfect candidate for this role will have a demonstrated record of success in positions of increasing responsibility over the course of their career. An ideal background will include:

* * 7+ years of progressive leadership owning product management and/or product marketing* with a reputation of delighting customers, meeting tight deadlines, and fostering collaborative working relationships with engineering.

  • An imaginative and decisive business technologist who possesses deep domain knowledge of customer problems and aspirations. Orientation is towards the definition of user scenarios, use cases, and/or user stories through visual, verbal and written communication.

  • Experience in the creation of more than one product from inception to release with meaningful results measured in terms of customers, revenue and/or market share.

  • Background with direct responsibility as a user experience designer, business analyst, presales consultant, or technical support engineer, a plus.

  • A deep understanding of the API management, Web API, IOT, Security, or SOA

  • Has built credibility and a reputation for guiding engineering agile teams to execute on quality deliverables, i.e. user stories, user experience, backlog management, agile ceremonies, etc.

  • Lives and breathes the customer and user experience, capable of translating business constructs into detailed requirements and instigating healthy debate and ambitious thinking

  • Balances how to play his/her position by focusing on the “what” and “why” instead of the “how” while collaborating without boundaries to ensure transparency into timelines, quality of delivery, exposure to risk, barriers to execution, business viability, and remediation plans.

  • Champions “whole product” thinking, ensuring sufficient consideration of non-functional requirements and implications for how product is promoted, sold, delivered, and monetized.

  • Strong aptitude for hands-on creation of compelling visual and persuasive written content for internal and external consumption.

  • Takes an inclusive and listen-first approach to appropriately influence release contents, schedules, and technical decisions, forming a highly interactive relationship built on trust.

  • Continues learning and adapting to change by being receptive to coaching and addressing gaps by proactively developing desired proficiencies. Seeks mentoring and feedback.

  • How you’ll Stand Out*

In this role, you’ll help support “CA API Management Product” team to transform the IT industry by:

  • Product Ownership*

  • May coach and mentor more junior Product Owners in the art and science of the Product Owner role.

  • Work as part of the extended Product Management team in support of the overall Product Management discipline for a Release Train.

  • Work as part of the extended Product Team, including Product Managers, other Product Owners, UX and Architects in facilitating the processes, practices and principles necessary to delivering outstanding business value and an exceptional customer experience.

  • Lead continuous market research and assessment activities to ensure the team is aligned to the market opportunities, and able to react quickly to changing market dynamics.

  • Build customer and user insights into all stages of the planning and execution process, ensuring the continuous validation of features and stories with Customers and users.

o Solicit and secure customers and users in support of the validation process.

  • Serve as a product lead to cross-functional teams to ensure their product support needs are met, for example:

o Act as liaison between support and the Agile team.

o Provide detailed demonstration plans to presales and assist with system configuration.

  • Act as a model for the principles behind the Agile Manifesto.

  • Program Increment (PI) Planning*

  • Prepare for PI Planning, including:

o Support Program Backlog Refinement.

o Support preparation of presentation materials critical to the release planning process.

o Support the prioritization of Features to ensure business alignment.

  • Actively participate in the PI Planning process, including:

o Work in close partnership with assigned Agile Teams, providing business and customer context to the planning activities.

o Lead the definition of User Stories and Story Acceptance Criteria in partnership with the Agile Team.

o Work with team to define the definition of ready/done.

o Lead User Story prioritization.

o Support the Agile team in the process of Story sequencing, sprint loading, and estimation activities.

o Draft the Agile Team Program Increment objectives/project charter.

  • Iteration Planning*

  • Lead the on-going refinement of the Team Backlog, including:

o Adding new stories or removing stories no longer applicable to the release.

o Story Prioritization.

o Sizing of stories.

o Coordinate content dependencies with other teams.

  • Actively support the Agile Team during iteration planning including:

o Lead story refinement and elaboration, ensuring stories are clear, unambiguous and ready for the team to work on.

o Own definition of story acceptance criteria.

o Accept the final iteration plan during the iteration planning meeting.

o Balance team capacity at the sprint level across % breakdown of new stories, refactoring, improvement activities, and technical debt reduction.

  • Own and communicate the definition of the iteration goals on behalf of the Agile Team.

  • Program Increment Execution*

  • Attend Agile Team ceremonies including Daily Stand-ups or Retrospectives as needed.

  • Actively manage impediments raised by the team that may impact velocity, quality, or value.

  • Actively participate in the Team Demo, including:

o Facilitating the system demo.

o Actively engage customers in the demos to get actionable feedback on the value delivered during each iteration.

o Accept stories into the backlog, including validation that the story meets its acceptance criteria and definition of done.

  • Participate in the Retrospective, working across teams to define and implement improvement stories that will increase the velocity and quality.

  • Certifications:* Certified Scrum Product Owner preferred.

  • Enable Agility*

  • Work within a self-directed Agile team; commit to work and own the outcome.

  • Demonstrate and cultivate a passion for delivering high quality products aligned with customer needs; increase customer exposure to build empathy.
